What to do, see and experience in Seychelles?

Amazing islands and perfect beaches

The Seychelles are particularly characterised by their beautiful white beaches, which are washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. You don’t have to run away from the hot sun, you can hide under one of the tall palm trees that simply belong to a perfect holiday day. Some of the most popular islands include Silhouette Island, which is rich in flora and fauna thanks to its rainforest. If you choose the island of Praslin, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches of Anse Lazio. The top three islands are rounded off by La Digue, which is so perfect that it even serves as a backdrop for filmmakers from time to time.

Victoria (capital city)

What would it be like to visit these beautiful islands and not see the capital? Victoria is where the history of the Seychelles began. Victoria, named after Queen Victoria of England, is interestingly the smallest capital city in the world. Here you can find the almost century-old botanical garden or even the colonial city centre. When visiting, don’t miss the local shops, which offer perhaps everything you could want, and the local market, where you’ll find freshly caught fish or other seafood.

Top places for diving and snorkelling

Do you love diving? Then hurray for the Seychelles! This divine place offers a truly diverse underwater world. You’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of dive centres on the islands to explore the darker depths of the sea. If the depths don’t tempt you, try snorkelling and you’re in for a treat.

National parks and turtles

Go to the island of Curieuse, where a surprise awaits you. One big surprise! The island is home to some truly gigantic turtles that are friendly enough to pose for your selfies. In addition, you can take a stroll through the national park, which resembles a real jungle.

Creole cuisine is full of delicacies

The local Creole cuisine is exotic not only for visitors but also for the locals themselves. Indian, Asian and European influences are mixed here. The main ingredient is, of course, fresh fish. There are several ways to enjoy them, but the most delicious ones are grilled or prepared as curries.

Active holidays and tea plantations

If you like to be active, put on your trekking boots and head to the top of Morne Blanc. Don’t worry, this “mountain” is only 667 metres high and will only take you about an hour to climb. As a reward, enjoy beautiful views of the whole island and even have the chance to learn a little more about the production of local tea in a small tea factory.

Treasure hidden on every island

Do you associate the island with hidden pirate treasures? Discover them! It’s true that there were pirates here in the past, and it’s also true thatyou can discover several treasures here, especially natural ones. On Praslin Island, for example, there is a waterfall in the middle of a lush forest that you won’t read about in any travel guide. Or go back in time to Le Digue Island, where you’ll find hardly any cars, life is somehow quieter, and not to mention the beautiful beaches… Awesome!

The sexiest nuts in the world

The island of Praslin is also home to a very rare species of palm that grows only on this island. The nuts from these palms are the largest in the world, weighing an incredible 30 kilograms and can grow up to 51 cm in diameter.

Unique fauna and flora

Beside the white sandy beaches and the pleasantly warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is home to a rainforest with endemic palm trees with the largest seeds in the world, as well as the critically endangered jellyfish tree, giant tortoises, black parrots and bats. The Seychelles is home to more than 2,000 endemic species of plants and animals.

The weather in the Seychelles is exotic all year round

The Seychelles is a year-round destination and temperatures usually do not drop below 30 degrees all year round. If you head here between November and March, you can expect calmer seas that are suitable for snorkelling. Conversely, from March to November, the winds are a little stronger, creating great conditions for surfers.

Transportation in the Seychelles: Rent a car at friendlier prices

Buses

Buses operate from Victoria (the capital), but don’t expect a fixed schedule; they tend to depart when full. However, you won’t have to wait long as they quickly fill up, and they are reasonably priced.

Maritime Transport Catamarans and private boats sail between the islands several times a day. You can find the ferry schedule and ticket reservations here.

Bicycles

You can rent bicycles at the harbor, with daily rental costs of approximately 10 EUR. Renting a bicycle for multiple days is more cost-effective.

Cars

In the Seychelles, they drive on the left side of the road, and the roads can be narrow, hilly, and winding. However, the roads are usually half-empty and well-marked. Main roads run along the island’s coast and cut across it. You can easily explore both islands in a single day. The cost of a liter of gasoline is similar to what you might find in other places, and one full tank is usually sufficient to traverse the island. You can rent a car on Mahé and Praslin.
